My daughter loves banana bread! Without the nuts of course. So, just having moved to our new home I thought I would make her some banana muffins. Well, during my first major trip to the grocery store I found a mix for banana muffins on sale and decided to pick them up.
So far so good, until I actually bake them. The first batch, I got this response from five year old Emma Jeanne, "These are not banana muffins."
"Ummm...Yes they are, it says on the package," I respond feeling very puzzled.
"They don't smell like banana muffins," Emma Jeanne says wrinkling her nose.
"Okay, yeah. They don't smell too bananany. But they are banana muffins."
"They don't taste like banana muffins."
Hmmm...Taking a bite myself I realize that she is right. If it doesn't smell like a banana muffin or taste like a banana muffin, then it must not be a banana muffin. So that was strike one!
Alright, being one not to waste anything, I decided to add some real bananas to the mix this time. And this is the response I got.
"Mommy, why are there berries in my banana muffin?"
"Those aren't berries. Those are bananas," I say matter-of-factly.
"Well, I don't like these banana berries!"
Okay, I seriously give up. I haven't made banana muffins since.
Emma Jeanne has informed me since then to get the recipe from Ganma (my mother-in-law) because her banana muffins are yummy. Now if I can only remember to call her and get her recipe...
